Welcome to my site. I am continually changing the information available here, so please visit again. For the past 37 years, 28 of them as a full time luthier, I have been making custom guitars and ukuleles. I work slowly, and favor traditional methods of construction. In my instruments you won't find bolt on necks, fancy factory made decorative purflings, laser cut inlays, or a host of other new techniques that have come into use in modern luthiery. I hand make as much of my craft as I can, which includes the rope bindings and handcut inlay. I currently only accept orders for guitars. I still make ukuleles, and when available, they will be posted on this site. This is unrelated to instruments, but too spectacular not to pass along. This flower is 8-10" across and it bloomed today in the garden. Another example of nature's incredible art!
Natures Art- The upper branches of an ancient fallen koa tree on the slopes of Mauna Kea
This is a uke I recently completed and meant to sell. Turned out that I like it better than the 6-string I had been playing for years, so I sold the 6 and kept this one to play. Half curly koa and half curly mango, matched on the top, back, and sides. Kind of fun! Great sound.
Select Koa Wood Guitar Back & Side Sets & Ukulele Top, Back, and Side Sets For Sale (Note- In Hawaii, the industry use of the term SELECT means clear wood with no defects. It is first class instrument wood but is a lower grade, pricewise, than curly. )
I have select Hawaiian koa guitar back and side sets in 000 and dreadnought sizes. Select grade is the same specs as wood described for the tenor uke sets below. To see a few higher grade curly koa guitar sets click here.
I also have very nice select sets of Hawaiian koa in tenor size for building ukuleles . Minimum order is 5 sets at the $50.00 price. Less than 5 sets add $5.00 per set. Wood is nice select koa. All pieces in the bookmatched top, back, and sides are cut from the same piece of wood. Some sets may show some curl, but select wood means just nice koa, no defects, but not necessarily curly. You have the right to return sets, but all sets in an order must be returned. Orders of multiple sets will contain a variety of wood. No high grading allowed. Available as of 4/10/08, I also have a few student grade tenor and concert size uke sets. These are sets of wood with bookmatched tops, backs, and sides, but the tops, backs, and sides are not cut from the same tree. Will still make some great looking ukes, but the wood will not all be matching. Minimum order 5 sets at $35.00 per set.
