Mango and Redwood Artist Series Mauna Loa Model Guitar
In my Artist Series instruments I make one of a kind pieces that are different from my regular models. This a new Mauna Kea model steel string guitar. These models are double soundhole guitars built in the Hawaiian style.
The top is redwood, back and sides are an unusual curly mango that I cut about 10 years ago, the fretboard and bridge are ebony, and it is trimmed with curly koa binding. The top has abalone purfling and the soundholes have abalone rosettes. The gold plated tuners are by Grover with ebony buttons. The fretboard is 43mm wide at the nut and 52mm wide at the 14th fret. There is a breadfruit inlay of abalone and mother of pearl on the fretboard and matching breadfruit leaves are handcarved into the neck heel in light relief. All of my inlay and carving is done by hand. I use no lasers in my work.
This guitar has a great sound with considerable volume and is easy to play.
