New Camphor Wood Tenor Ukulele
Sold 11/6/07
This is a new tenor ukulele that I just completed for the Annual Big Island Ukulele Guild Show. It is made from some unusual woods. A while ago I came by the beautiful curly camphor wood that this instrument is made from. I had never worked with it before and it was a unique experience. My shop was graced by the pleasant smell of the camphor wood while I was building this instrument. The top, back, and sides are curly camphor. The body and neck are bound with curly koa. The neck itself is Spanish Cedar with an ebony reinforcement strip and an ebony fretboard. I wanted this instrument to have a light bouncy ukulele sound and I chose a lightweight but hard wood for the bridge. The bridge is Bocate wood. On either side of the neck heel are small carved dolphins. The nut and saddle are made of black micarta. There is abalone shell inlay around the rosette and on the bridge. The logo is mother-of-pearl. All the shell inlay is cut from solid shell. This instrument is very easy to play. It has gold plated Grover tuners with ebony buttons and comes with Hilo Strings.
