The price of koa has gone up tremendously in the last year or 2. It is never going down. Just a few days ago I bought some koa here in Hawaii that cost me 421 times more than what I paid for koa 30 years ago. The price of sets for sale is based on what I paid for the wood. It is not based on looks alone. Sometimes very similar sets can have different prices because I had to pay a lot more for one batch of wood than for another.Before you buy any wood from me, you should check eBay. Sometimes sellers will get a board or 2 and sell it cheap, before they know the current prices of koa. Once in awhile you can get a real deal. Good luck finding wood and with your building.--Bob

As a builder myself, I understand the sizing of wood sets . Many sources try to mill sets to the absolute minimum dimensions in width, length, and thickness. This can make it difficult for builders, especially inexperienced ones, to join the wood, install rosettes, and do adequate glue cleanup without having the wood become too thin. I leave my sets slightly thicker for ease of building. All tops and backs are dry and sanded 2 sides to about 4mm thick. Sides may be sanded thinner in some cases because you don't need the extra thickness for joining.It is recommended that you sticker and acclimatize sets to your environment upon receipt for at least a week. The longer the better.
